No Comments This is my sermon on August 28 from Proverbs 30. It was part of our dedication service for our new roof and new AC and furnace units.
Even when you are in doubt and struggle with all the “storms of life”, look to God and He will meet you.
Continuing in Proverbs on August 21, I preached on the relative importance of money and some principles for handling it. I covered some sensitive issues and reflected on God’s use of money in our lives to grow us and shape us and mold us into His image.
As we continue to work through the book of Proverbs, we hear this week about God’s view of marriage. We discuss the roles of the wife and husband from Proverbs and Paul’s writing in Ephesians 5. Marriage today is to be a picture of the ultimate and eternal marriage between Christ and the church, as seen in Revelation 19.

I preached from Proverbs on the important PLACE of our children and the great value they have and we should put on them. I talked about PREPARING and training up our children in the ways of the Lord, and sometimes this training involves “PADDLING” – discipline. We must discipline our children in all its forms (spankings, time-outs, restrictions, curfews…). Another important point of our parenting is PREACHING the gospel to our children, in all its richness, fullness, grace, and glory. I concluded with a call to PRAY for our children’s true conversion, that God would bring about the miracle of regeneration in each of their lives.
God is our perfect heavenly Father who demonstrates all of these qualities with us, His children. He places important value on us, he prepares us, he “paddles” us, he preaches the gospel to us, and he prays for us (that is to say His heart is for the lost, that they would repent and come to Him for everlasting life).
God walks with you in your parenting. Whatever faults or mistakes you may have made in the past, you can start fresh and new today with Him at your side. Come to Him and know the way and lead your children in this.
In my sermon on July 31, I preached from Proverbs on “gracious speech”. There is a right way and a wrong way to speak to others, both in the body and those who are lost. Our speech should exemplify God’s work in our lives. We must be changed by the Word before our words can be used to influence others. This has much implication for the church and our mission to reach the lost.
I am continuing to preach through Proverbs and we covered the topic of friendship on July 24, 2011. It is an important issue because it deals with Christ’s love for us, how we “be” the church with one another, and how we do our mission to the lost.
In my sermon on July 17, I said from Proverbs 2 and 3 that God has guidance for us today. I shared a comment from Elizabeth Elliot, where she remarked that sometimes it was more important to have the Person Himself walk with us than the particular guidance or direction we so desparately seek. Sometimes we ask for to small a thing.
I am preaching through Proverbs and on July 3 we examined the truth, “God is in control today.” This is an encouraging and comforting truth to hear from His Word.
I am preaching through Proverbs this summer, more of a topical series than chapter-and-verse. We start on June 26 with Wisdom – the source, satisfaction, safety, summons and Savior.
